About Us
The Canaan Child Care Center became a licensed facility in 1979, by a group of parents who saw a need for working parents in the Town of North Canaan to have a childcare center. The goal of the Canaan Child Care Center is to provide parents with a structured and nurturing environment to care for their children while they are at work.
The Canaan Child Care Center is a non-profit organization. We offer educationally based, affordable, child care for children three to eight years of age in a safe, structured, nurturing environment. Our program is designed to enhance our children’s social, emotional, physical and developmental growth, which fosters independence, creative thinking with memories that will last a lifetime.
Current Programs & Services
The Child Care Center is located on Pease Street in the North Canaan Elementary School. The Center offers three programs: Before School, After School, and Preschool. We offer a School Readiness Program which is sponsored by the State of Connecticut, which allows us to prepare all children in the community for school.
During the Before School program, children have the opportunity to use the computer, play board games, create art projects, or use any of our station activities. We also encourage a healthy breakfast before going off to school.Our After-School Program offers indoor and outdoor play options which focuses on the interest of the children. This program is designed to meet the needs of parents, who work later, and ensure their children’s safety in a well-supervised environment.
The Preschool program offers an educational atmosphere that works in conjunction with the North Canaan Elementary School. Children are exposed to songs, letters and number recognition, studies of interest to the children, reading, seasonal activities, field trips, and an intergenerational program with the Geer Nursing Home. This program is a steppingstone for a young child’s education.
